    What is JUNES ?

    United Nations Youth Association Switzerland (JUNES) is an independent, non-partisan & non-profit umbrella organization, uniting all Model Untied Nations associations in Switzerland. JUNES was founded in 2007 by former Federal Councillor Micheline Calmy-Rey to sensitize Swiss youth to the work and value of the UN and bring the voice of civil-society youth to the UN. Since its founding JUNES continues to pursue its mission operating six national projects, two international projects meanwhile representing Swiss UN Youth nationally & internationally.

    What is the JUNES Presidency?

    The Presidency may consist of President & Vice-President, with the later serving as sub-ordered assistance to the President, or two Co-Presidents with side-ordered and equal responsibilities. The executive positions as P/VP or CO-Ps are complimented by the Treasurer, responsible for Fundraising & Finances. The Presidency is ultimately responsible to the Board of JUNES. Their primary task is to ensuring strategic and legal compliance with decisions of the Board of JUNES and subsequently for overseeing recruitment, implementation, monitoring & evaluation of all activities of JUNES. The presidency is, as all people working for JUNES, non-remunerated volunteer positions.

    What are the responsibilities of the Presidency?

    The Presidency of JUNES is elected by the JUNES General Assembly in Lausanne 13th September 2014 and serve for one year from 13th September 2014 – September 2014 with possibility of extension.

    The responsibilities includes but are not limited to:

    • Forge synergy with member association; organize, prepare & manage monthly board meetings, remain available to assist & supervise member associations, take demand-driven approach to day-to-day decision-making processes & accommodate wishes of members.
    • Keep the Board of JUNES informed on current state of actions, progress & difficulties, furthermore assist the Board determine & monitor activities, opportunities & challenges.
    • Assist & supervise all mandated project teams, ensure compliance with sub-targets, reporting and evaluation mechanisms.
    • Represent JUNES to stakeholders & partners; Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, United Nations Association Switzerland (GSUN), Swiss National Youth Council (CSAJ/SAJV), World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA), United Nations Youth Association Network (UNYANet), United Nations Office in Geneva (UNOG), Mercator Foundation ect.
    • Strengthen JUNES as the primary platform for Swiss UN Youth interaction & action.

    Your profile:

    • Active student in Switzerland; Enrolled for B.A, M.A. or P.H.D at a Swiss University.
    • Residing in Switzerland until autumn 2014, with basic knowledge of Swiss culture & politics.
    • Proficient level in English & German or French. Knowledge of Italian & other languages an asset.
    • At least one year experience working or volunteering for non-profit organisations.
    • Profound knowledge and interest in the United Nations System & Model United Nations.
    • Flair for working in a multicultural context & performing multi-dimensional tasks.
    • Natural talent for team-management, solid organizational skill & sense of responsibility.
